Steps to Management Success – Step 137: Never Settle

STEP ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-SEVEN

Never Settle

People frequently have the option of accepting what they’re given or trying to get something more or better. Leaders tend to want more, but the great, visionary leaders always demand the best. These outstanding leaders require the best from themselves and they insist on surrounding themselves with others who are and want the best; nothing less will satisfy them.

WHAT IT MEANS: Those who stand pat usually prefer safety, and as a result, they may collect fewer rewards. Leaders want rewards, not safety. They want to play the game and win. They love the action, to spend their time with experts, top people, kindred spirits who have complementary knowledge, know-how, tastes, and ambitions. They want to be with those who generate the most exciting ideas, stimulation, and opportunities; those who can take them to the loftiest heights.

ACTION PLAN: Surround yourself with the best and the brightest. Few things can enhance your life and be more beneficial than spending time with those who are smarter and wiser than you. They can lift you to their level and beyond. Find out who they are, learn about them, discover where they meet, and try to get to know them. Read everything they’ve written, each speech they’ve given, and all articles and information available on them. Hire them, send them business referrals, work them into your business and your life.

EVEN BETTER: Become the best. The surest route to meeting the best is to become the best at what you do. Top people want to be together, so they tend to congregate. Become the best and you’ll be invited to join the club.
