Would you like to position your company to be able to attract lucrative and solid corporate contracts? This is the goal of many smaller businesses after the recent recession. Depending solely upon customers to purchase your goods and services is not always a secure business model anymore. Contracts enable you to take your business to another level and service other businesses and provide solutions to their problems. Take a look.

Step 1 Know who you are dealing with

You need to have a firm grasp of the company which you are approaching and what their good and services are. Can you handle their business? Is your firm currently able to provide a service to them? These are questions that you need to ask upfront before considering a contract with a firm.

Step 2 Understand what problems your target company has

How can you help another business if you do not know what their current issues are? By understanding the soft spots of the target company that you seek a contract from you can easily determine how your firm can erase or ease the difficulties of the target company. This will make your firm more appealing and likely to secure a lucrative, multi-year contract.

Step 3 Develop relationships within your target organization

Prior to bidding for a contract from a major corporation, you need to cultivate professional relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization. From the janitor to the C-suite, you need to maintain a relationship so that you can understand how the target firm works and what you need to do to be considered for a contract.

Step 4 Stay current

Constantly read and keep up to date about the target firm’s industry as well as your own industry. Also take a few minutes daily to learn about other industries as well. By being informed on the latest trends and events, you can propose a more viable and plausible solution to your target firm later on.

Remember, a little forethought and planning can go a long way when trying to obtain a secure and lucrative contract.
