Steps to the top home based businesses of 2011

Written By Steps To Faculty Published August 4th, 2010

Although a few months away, 2011 will usher in more of the same with the economy and life in general. But that does not mean that your life needs to be uneventful. You can begin to change your life and get more money by starting a business. In fact, starting a business can create a new job for you and give you solid earning potential. The following are great easy to start businesses that only require flier distribution or other simple marketing tactics. Take a look.

Step 1 Start a pet care service

Did you know that many pet owners spend more on their pets than they do on other (human) loved ones? According to the National Pet Association, pet owners spend an average of $100 more on gifts for their pets versus their loved ones. It makes sense to start a pet business if you are good with pets (of any kind) if you are looking for profitability and leisure. Dogwalking, cat sitting, and even pet entertainment are great money makers that can earn you upwards of $1500 per month. Start today by giving out fliers in your local neighborhood.

Step 2 Run errands (errand service)

Everyone these days is ultra busy. Running errands can sometimes fall by the wayside. This is a great business for anyone unemployed and who can drive a car. Running errands for people is an excellent business that can easily be formed by distributing fliers or setting up a web site. All you need is a few clients and you could make $900-$2000 per month. Wealthier clients are willing to pay more so your earning potential will increase.

Step 3 Clean houses that are foreclosed or clean attics and garages

AS more and more properties are in foreclosure or up for sale in real estate inventory, the need to have someone maintain the home goes up. This is a year round business with great potential right now as the economy attempts to stabilize. This business can also be expanded to include attic and garage cleaning business for regular homeowners.

Step 4 Landscape

As the economy fluctuates, everyone will still need to find some funding to help keep their properties clean and organized. As an offshoot business from Step 3, you can offer to maintain the grounds for retirement homes, personal properties, and for businesses. Generally, a landscaper can make anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000 depending upon the number of customers and the number of businesses they service. For example, if you contract with a retirement home and a hospital, then you can expect to make $100,000. On the other hand, if you contract with several homeowners, then your annual salary is about $30,000. Check with your local county office if license is required prior to starting this business.

Step 5 Be a driver

As local budget and state cuts have forced many bus services to shut down, transportation for many home bound individuals is impossible. They simply cannot afford to purchase a new car or may not have the credit to do so. As you may know, cab or taxi fare is not inexpensive, especially for distances over two miles. This is where your business will fit in. You can drive seniors and other home bound people around for a fee. This is a good business where there are retirement homes. You can make a steady $30,000 annually with this type of business as you gain more customers.
